For thousands of years, humans have made art to document our relationship with the natural world...from cave art to ancient textiles, to the great landscapes of the Hudson River School painters. Today, our lives have become increasingly removed from the rhythms of nature and the ecosystems we need to survive, and to thrive. These tapestries are an exploration of the memory of our connection.
Each piece begins with raw canvas aged with original techniques, natural pigments, and weathered by Mother Nature herself to create a surface that already carries the feeling of time. Memories of landscapes are then built through pigment and paint, allowing the character of the cloth, and the image to become one. Some memories are clearer than others, but each tells a story.
The pieces carry the names of women, symbols of the many names of Mother Nature, and the qualities she can teach us if we listen closely...if we return to her. We have never really been separate from the natural world...we are woven into it.

Art is always best witnessed in person and with the unique nature of these pieces it is highly recommended to get the full effect of their detail, texture and impact. In person viewing is available in the Franklin / Nashville area. The tapestries can be brought to the home, or viewed in studio by request. Zoom calls are available for longer distance.
INSTALLATION
The pieces are meant to hang unframed on a wall and treated like cloth. The wrinkles and imperfections are intentional and part of the aged effect.
